Simulator Assessment
Expectations
Many pilots approach airline simulator assessments with the belief that success hinges solely on technical flying ability. While strong handling skills remain essential, airline assessors are focused on something far more comprehensive: your capacity to manage complex situations, communicate effectively, and integrate seamlessly into a multi‑crew environment. These behaviours are driven by competencies, making it essential to measure, understand, develop, and demonstrate these competencies with confidence.
This is exactly where InfinityACT becomes invaluable. As a research‑driven, evidence‑based competency framework, it enables our expert coaches to assess and identify the key competencies that will drive your assessment performance and thus tailor your preparation with a depth of insight that traditional sim‑prep alone cannot deliver.
Bespoke Simulator Preparation Coaching
Focused on You
Powered by InfinityACT, our exclusive competency based methodology built on more than 17 years of rigorous research, enabling us to deliver a level of simulator preparation that goes far beyond the industry standard.
Every candidate receives a fully personalised competency report before they even arrive for their sim prep. This report, unique to Infinity Sim Wings, forms the backbone of our coaching approach. It gives our expert coaches deep insight into your behavioural strengths and development areas, allowing them to shape every element of your session around you.
But while our advanced methodology is transformative, our training still remains firmly rooted in the fundamentals that airlines still expect pilots to master. We excel at the traditional sim prep essentials:
- Aircraft handling and raw‑data flying
- Manual flight path management
- Takeoff, go‑around, and engine‑out profiles
- Decision‑making models and threat‑error management
- Workload management and prioritisation under pressure
- Effective Crew Resource Management
These core skills are integrated directly into your competency‑based coaching plan. During your simulator session, we work on the competencies that matter most, those identified in your report. While simultaneously sharpening the classic handling and procedural skills that airline assessors are looking for. Nothing is generic. Every exercise, every brief, every coaching moment is intentionally designed to elevate your performance in a real airline assessment.
After your sim prep session, you’ll receive clear, structured feedback outlining what went well and which competency areas to continue strengthening, supported by practical, personalised exercises. And because true preparation extends beyond the simulator, we provide ongoing support right up to your assessment day, ensuring you walk in confident, prepared, and performing at your best.
Our Modular Approach
Built around You
Infinity Pilot’s interview and simulator preparation program offers a modular, targeted approach to readiness for airline selection processes. The course is divided into two distinct components—each designed to address specific areas of assessment. Delivered on our training-grade A320 simulator, the program offers a seamless transition into airline recruitment environments. Whether you’re an experienced airline pilot changing roles, transitioning from military service, or newly graduated from flight school, Infinity Sim Wings is here to support you.
Infinity Pilot
Simulator Preparation Structure
Briefing - 60 Minutes
Each simulator preparation session begins with a focused briefing designed to familiarise candidates with the assessment profile, aircraft setup, and expected procedures. This includes a review of flight phases, CRM expectations, and key technical elements relevant to the simulator scenario. The briefing ensures clarity, reduces uncertainty, and sets the foundation for a confident and structured performance in the simulator.
Simulator Session 2 Hour
This targeted session focuses on key airline assessment skills, including aircraft handling, energy management, go-arounds, and approach types. Pilots will practice raw data ILS, briefings (normal, non-normal, emergency), AP modes, and failure management. Emphasis is placed on situational awareness, flight control use, and radio navigation—all delivered in a realistic A320 simulator environment.
Debriefing - 30 Minutes
Following the simulator session, a structured debriefing is conducted to review performance, highlight strengths, and identify areas for improvement. Instructors provide detailed feedback on aircraft handling, procedural accuracy, CRM application, and decision-making. This reflective discussion reinforces key learning points and offers actionable guidance to help candidates refine their technique and approach ahead of airline assessments.
Interview & Sim Prep Testimonials
Great team and facilities - Airline preparation
I met the team at Infinity Sim Wings for some help with preparing for an upcoming airline assessment. Hani and Ethan are approachable, knowledgeable and enthusiastic people that are keen to get the best out of you for the course. I started out by completing a questionnaire that helps to identify areas of strength and weaknesses within the various pilot competencies. The results were reviewed and explained to me, then used to tailor the training package to suit individual needs. It was nice to have a focus to the training, rather than just a generic ‘one fits all’ course. It’s something that Hani has clearly put a lot of time and effort into, and I believe is a useful tool to make the most out of your time there. The simulator setup is a realistic, immersive build, and the AI enabled features are a really interesting touch. The AI is aspect is always improving, and it is obvious that Ethan is really passionate, and will keep working to finesse the setup to enhance that element of realism to the Sim sessions. Overall, I would highly recommend Infinity Sim Wings. Run by a friendly, welcoming team, and a really nice setup to help prepare for airline assessment.

A320 Simulator
Preparation
- Technical Skills
- Flight Deck Familiarity
- Handling
- Flight Deck Management
Depending on your experience level the simulator assessment will focus on:
- Basic Flying Skills - Cadet & Low Honoured Pilot
- Technical Proficiency - Type Rated
- General Handling Skills - Non-Type Rated
- Technical Expertise - Captain Type Rated
- Adaptability - Captain Non-Type Rated
For your simulator assessment you will need to familiarise yourself with the Airbus A320 cockpit layout (including how to display the radio navigation information), primary flight controls and the radio navigation MCDU page.
There are an abundance of online resources to aid you in becoming familiar with the A320, but unsurprisingly, the best way is to use a full scale Airbus A320 simulator.
It is also important you are aware of the fly-by-wire characteristics if you've flown conventional jets.
You will need fundamental knowledge of how pitch and power work together to control the aircraft's altitude, speed, and overall flight path.
Pitch and power settings for the aircraft are readily available online and should be memorised. This knowledge ensures the aircraft remains stable and under control during diffrent flight phases, such as climb, cruise and descent.
Important handling features of the Airbus A320:
- Due to the fly-by-wire nature there is no mechanical connection between the side stick and flight controls.
- There is no coupling between pitch and power, significant nose up altitude will require significant side stick deflection.
- Trim is automatically below bank angle of 33 degrees.
- Returning the side stick to the neutral position after commanding a roll or pitch rate will result in the attitude holding.
- The thrust levers are gated from IDLE to CLB (climb). FLX/MCT, and TOGA.
- The side stick and thrust lever are sensitive, so avoid making large inputs ( when the thrust lever is between IDLE and CLB it is in a 'manual' range, where only a relatively small hand movement is required to go between IDLE and CLB),
To adequetely prepare, you will need to be competent in:
- Energy management
- Autopilot modes
- Types of approaches
- Raw data ILS
- Holding / turning around a NAVAID

Preparation
Tips
In order to best prepare you for the day, you need to know you have done everything possible to get the job. This preparation can look like:
- Talking to others who have been through the process
- Watching videos or consuming other dedicated resources to help you prepare
- Reviewing manuals, SOP’s, charts, etc..
- Practice flying manually, this can done through flight simulators, or simply at home practicing flight profiles in your head
- Practicing briefings
However, the best way you can prepare is in a simulator and environment that replicates your assessment.
Success as a team
On the day you will likely be partnered up with the airline assessor or another pilot. To be individually successful, is being successful as a team, which will be demonstrated by how you work together. Thus briefing with a focus on how you will achieve your goal and collectively coming up with strategies on working together as a team is of paramount importance. At this point it is important to set the foundation, where you acknowledge that the person in the other seat is likely from a different flying background. What this means is that certain standards should be set, such as when certain callouts are made, and who is in control of what and when. This forward thinking demonstrates to the assessor great communication and teamworking skills before any flying has commenced.
Be Brief
Develop a concise means of delivering your brief, encompassing any threats and how to deal with them. A great, simple, way to achieve this is by lots of practice reading plates at home. In preparation for your simulator assessment, you can also consider ‘technical’ threats, such as raw data navigation, including holdings, SIDs and arrivals. In addition, use of manual thrust and AP/FD modes. Other threats include the possible use of an unfamiliar aircraft type, and non normal crew compliment, which is critically important to address to work together, successfully, as a team.
Situation Awareness
Great situational awareness is critical to ensuring that the flight is well managed and expertly flown. To keep your situational awareness high it is important that you; work at a slow enough pace to think rationally, brief at times of low workload, communicate using open questions with your partner. When thinking about situational awareness consider: Aviate – What is the current aircraft state and what is the next event (think about speed, altitude, heading, constraints, etc..) Navigate – Consider where you are currently and what is around you (what is your MSA, what is your flight path, diversion airports, are there any threats?, etc..) Communicate – Are ATC, cabin crew and passengers aware of your intentions?
Don’t Rush
Don’t say you’re ready until you are! Use your time wisely on the ground to properly equip and prepare yourself to handle any threats as a team. Use time of low workload to work together to prepare fully. A few tips: Be concise, don’t read out all the information, pick out the relevant parts and discuss. Focus on how you are going to achieve your goal. Don’t brief for the assessors sake, brief for yourself. Don’t use excessive open questions – keep it relevant. Make notes – this could be fuel, diversion, MSA, names, etc..
Effective teamwork
For a team to be effective their must exist an even distribution of workload between the pilot flying and pilot monitoring. As pilot monitoring it is imperative to unload workload from the pilot flying when possible and always think ahead and consider what if scenarios. This will involve monitoring the aircraft state closely, including deviations, and being an active flight crew member. As the flying pilot, continuously seek ways to distribute workload, whether this be using automation, transferring duties when complexities arise, etc.. Keep the pilot monitoring engaged by asking what comes next, and encourage them to assist you during complex events to maintain high situational awareness.
