Jet Orientation Program Objectives
Infinity Pilot’s Jet Orientation Program is designed to bridge the gap between light aircraft operations and the complex demands of commercial jet flying. Tailored for pilots transitioning to jet aircraft, this course provides a structured introduction to the operational, procedural, and handling differences encountered when flying an Airbus A320.
By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
Clearly articulate the key differences in flight techniques between light aircraft and jet operations, with a focus on the Airbus A320
Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental flight procedures specific to commercial jet aircraft
Gain practical familiarity with manual (hand-flown) control of the Airbus A320 in a simulated environment
Approach initial simulator assessments with confidence, having built a strong foundation in jet handling and procedural awareness
Whether you’re preparing for airline selection or simply seeking to expand your skillset, this jet orientation program offers a valuable stepping stone into the world of jet aviation.
Jet Orientation Course Modules
The jet orientation program is conducted on our state-of-the-art fixed-base Airbus A320 simulator, based near Gatwick Airport, with session durations ranging from 4 to 8 hours, tailored to each participant’s experience level and training objectives.
Comprehensive Briefing
Before entering the simulator, participants receive a detailed briefing covering key differences between light aircraft and jet operations. This session introduces core jet handling techniques, procedural expectations, and Airbus A320-specific considerations. Designed to build confidence and situational awareness, the briefing ensures each pilot is fully prepared to maximise their simulator time.
Go-around
The go-around procedure is a critical element of jet operations, requiring precise handling and situational awareness. During the course, participants will be introduced to the key phases of a go-around in the Airbus A320, including thrust application, pitch control, configuration changes, and navigation management. This session builds confidence in executing missed approaches safely and efficiently, reinforcing decision-making under dynamic conditions.
Jet Handling during various flight stages
Participants will gain practical insight into jet handling across all key phases of flight—takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, and landing. The module highlights the procedural and aerodynamic differences between light aircraft and jet operations, with a focus on managing speed, configuration, automation, and energy during each stage. Special attention is given to manual handling techniques in the Airbus A320, helping pilots build confidence and precision in real-world scenarios.
Precision & Non-precision approaches on raw data
This module focuses on the fundamentals of flying precision and non-precision approaches using raw data. Participants will learn to interpret the PFD and ND, manage aircraft configuration, and maintain situational awareness throughout the approach. Emphasis is placed on manual flying skills, accurate tracking, and procedural discipline—essential competencies for jet operations and simulator assessments.
SIDS/STARS
SIDs and STARs are essential components of jet operations, requiring precise navigation and procedural awareness. This session introduces participants to the structure, purpose, and execution of SIDs and STARs. Emphasis is placed on interpreting charts, managing the aircraft, and understanding ATC expectations—ensuring pilots can transition smoothly through each phase of flight with confidence and accuracy.
Precision approaches flown on the Flight Director
This module focuses on executing precision approaches using the Flight Director—a critical skill in jet operations. Participants will learn to interpret Flight Director cues, manage aircraft configuration, and maintain accurate lateral and vertical guidance throughout the approach. Emphasis is placed on procedural discipline, automation management, and smooth transitions from instrument guidance to visual references, ensuring a confident and controlled arrival.
CAT I and CAT II approaches
This module introduces pilots to Category I and Category II instrument approaches, focusing on the operational procedures, minima, and aircraft handling required for each. Participants will learn to manage automation, monitor flight instruments, and maintain precision during low-visibility operations. Special emphasis is placed on approach stability, decision altitude protocols, and the role of the Flight Director and autopilot in ensuring safe and compliant landings.
Asymmetric flight
This module introduces the principles and handling techniques required during asymmetric flight—where one engine is inoperative or producing reduced thrust. Participants will learn to manage directional control, thrust asymmetry, and aircraft configuration & handling in both manual and automated flight modes. Emphasis is placed on maintaining control, situational awareness, and procedural accuracy during critical phases such as takeoff, climb, and approach.
